Frost/Nixon Review

frostnixonmovie

I would have wrote spoiler on the title, but anyone who remembers the Nixon years, and or, read the book who know what happen in the movie.

The Sum Up

Oscar-winning director Ron Howard (“A Beautiful Mind” and “The Andy Griffith Show”) brings to the screen, writer Peter Morgan’s  (“The Queen,” “The Last King of Scotland”) amazing battle between Richard Nixon, the disgraced president with a legacy to save, and David Frost, a television personality with a name to make, in the untold story of the historic encounter that changed both.

Reprising their roles from Peter Morgan’s Tony Award winning stageplay are Frank Langella, who won a Tony for his portrayal of Nixon, and Michael Sheen (“The Queen”), who fully inhabited the part of Frost onstage in London and New York. For three years after being forced from office, Nixon remained silent. But in summer 1977, the steely, cunning former commander-in-chief agreed (After asking for an insane amount of money) to sit for a one-on-one all-inclusive interview to confront the questions of his time in office and the Watergate scandal that ended his presidency. Nixon surprised everyone in selecting Frost as his televised confessor, intending to easily outfox the breezy British showman and secure a place in the hearts and minds of Americans.

Likewise, Frost’s team harbored doubts about their boss’ ability to hold his own. But as cameras rolled, a charged battle of wits resulted. Would Nixon evade questions of his role in one of the nation’s greatest disgraces? Or would Frost confound critics and bravely demand accountability from the man who’d built a career out of stonewalling? Over the course of their encounter, each man would reveal his own insecurities, ego and reserves of dignity — ultimately setting aside posturing in a stunning display of unvarnished truth.

The Good

“Frost Nixon” not only re-creates the on-air interview, but the weeks of around-the-world, behind-the-scenes maneuvering between the two men and their camps as negotiations were struck, deals were made and secrets revealed. . . all leading to the moment at the end. Not only did this movie recreate the time very well, but the actors portrayed them so well that when watching the Forst/Nixon intreview, I was awestruck with how well they played each character. Which isn’t a big s big surprise sinc ethey have been playing the characters for so long.

The Bad

I really have nothing bad to say other than, on occasion the camera pan over and light glares would flare up here and there. Normally that sort of thing doesn’t bother me, but when it happens a little to often then it starts to get frustrating. At one point I had to squint my eyes because it was so bright.

All-in-All

I give this movie a 9.5 out of 10. Again those glares and the brightness!

Resident Evil: Degeneration Review [SPOILERS!]

•December 18, 2008 • Leave a Comment

resident_evil_degeneration_titleThis is one of those “greatest animated movies based on a Video Game!” Let me explain…

The Sum Up

This movie takes place After Resident Evil 4 and a little between and after 5. The beginning of the movie starts off like most of the Resident Evils do, Nice and peaceful than ten minutes into it Chaos ensues. It all starts at an airport where you meet Clair. The infection spreads throughout the airport. and that is where Leon comes in. Coming straight from his mission in RE 4, thats all you really need to know. To find out more go out and rent the movie.

The Good

This Movie has everything a Resident Evil game should, A great solid story. Far from a video game this movie gives the same awesome intense feeling that all the games gave. As I mentioned above this film has some of the best choreographed Animates I’ve seen. Not to mention that in some of the scene I got confused and thought they were actual people.

The Bad

I really cant think of anything bad about this movie, but seeing as how people need to have bad news I think I’ll say this. Yes, the animation is awesome in the movie. But there were times in the movie were it looked like it was made using video game graphics. The lipsynch was also off at times.

But other then that…

All-in-All

It was entertaining as hell. They also put in a G-Virus Monster. 9.5 out of 10.

Dragon Ball Evolution International Trailer

•December 16, 2008 • 1 Comment

The more I see of this movie the more I think that it might actually turn out to be a good movie for kids. That’s were I get confused I lot of the people who know about Dragon Ball are all at least in their 30’s and the kids of today only find out about this anime through them or accidentally finding it on the internet.

My question for this week is this: Why would a studio make something that is obviously for a mature audience, for kids?

WALL-E, Iron Man and Frost/Nixon make it to AFI’s Top 10.

afi-awards-8

The American Film Institute has put up their annual list of the Top 10 movies of this year. But remember they don’t put them in any particular order.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON

THE DARK KNIGHT

FROST/NIXON

FROZEN RIVER

GRAN TORINO

IRON MAN

MILK

WALL-E

WENDY AND LUCY

THE WRESTLER

In my own opinion there are three on that list I would vote onto my top 10 list and it’s surprising. I’ll post it up later this week. I have to do some more research before I can post them up.

The Day The Earth Stood Still Review

•December 15, 2008 • 1 Comment

[Will Update with a video Review later on today]

page0_blog_entry16_1When I first heard that they were making a remake of this film, the first thought that came into my head was “Why in the Hell do they keep making remakes!?” but then when the trailers were being released I started to like the idea of the film.

The Sum Up

In this Adaptation the premise revolves around a woman and her kid (just like the original) and the mother just so happens to be a biologist and she gets taken to a football stadium where they then taken to an area and where told that something will land on earth in their exact city (which just so happens to be Manhattan, Like every other big movie something HUGEhappens in NYC). Well, they find out that this thing coming to earth is a big giant cloud ball. Something come out of it, and it Klaatu the alien who warns them that if they do not change they will all be wiped out. (Again exactly like the original)

The Good

Here is where I stand on this movie. I liked it, I really liked it. But, it’s not one of those movie’s that you have to see. The reason I liked this movie so much has to do with my beliefs. This movie has the most essential Humanist element that people need to understand. Yes,we as a human race are violent, misguided, gorillas. But there is something that we have that this movie tries to explain, that we have emotion.

(Than again I doubt that’s what the filmmakers who made this had in mind when they conceived the idea for this remake)

The Bad

This movie had (by far) the worst graphics for a large hollywood film that I have ever seen. I mean some of the scenes had CGI where they did need them. Not to mention the fact that you’d think that with Keanu Reeves on board with this movie that it would have better graphic than the Matrix and that movie came out in ’97. I hope in the future that Keanu can research the studio’s before he signs on to do the movie, cause I’m guessing that this movie is going to do very good.

I mean no offense to Keanu, or the studio how financed and made that movie but COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!! IF MY RETARDED LITTLE SISTER CAN MAKE FUN OF HOW SHITTY THE GRAPHICS ARE THAN HOW DO YOU THINK A WELL TRAINED CRITICS IS GOING TO DO!!!!! EAT YOU ALIVE IS WHAT I SAY!!!!

Plus, we went to go see it the day after it came out and there were 50 people there!!! And from what I understand a theater can hold up to maybe 150 people. I’m not sure though I’m just guessing!!!!

All-in-All

I’ll give this movie a 6.5 out of 10 Just becuase of the humanity thing.

New Terminator Salvation Trailer

•December 10, 2008 • 1 Comment

This movie is looking badassier and badassier as more trailers come out!!!

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/R3mw_w09tOo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1″></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/R3mw_w09tOo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

The one thing I am skeptical about is all the new machines that they are introducing through the trailer. If your a true fan of the Terminator franchise count how many new machines you see.

Keanu Joins 47 Ronin

•December 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment

This weekend being the big opening for Keanu’s new movie “The Day The Earth Stood Still” (And yes I’m going to go see that this weekend so expect a review) I thought I’d get the gang (which at the moment is only me and jackie) and record a video about all of Keanu’s films.

But this comes for those guys over at IESB:

In “47 Ronin,” he will play one of the swordsmen; the group and their master are revered in Japan for their revenge attack on Dec. 14, 1702.

The film will tell a stylized version of the story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in “The Lord of the Rings” pics, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as “Gladiator.”

This news however scares me. I’m not to sure how Keanu will be able to pull off playing a samurai seeing as how he’s a white dude. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Star Trek Vs. Star Wars [Battle of the franchises]

•December 4, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I’m a fan of both, I watched both as a child. It’s awesome to see someone finally make a good battle between the two franchise’s.

I however would have to say that I’m a bigger fan of Star Trek: TNG than Star Wars. Cause lets be honest with ourselves, TNG was a Tv series and they got the chance to explain everything that goes on in the show. Star Wars on the other hand, didn’t explain anything. And me being a small and confused child, I didn’t know what the hell was going on!!

Thanks a lot George for turning something that could have been a dark space adventure into something a 2 year old could watch.

Ace Venture Jr.: Pet Detective goes straight to DVD

•November 25, 2008 • Leave a Comment

MY GOD!! What the hell were the studios thinking!!! Who in the right mind thought it was a good idea to create a Kid-friendly Venture flick and fill it with BULLSHIT!!!! This is an abomination and I’m glad that Jim Carrey refused to be in this film.
